I began training in Earles Academy Ving Chun Kuen in 1998 under Kevin Earle and other Earles Academy Ving Chun instructors, Jason, Clay, Les, Max, Adrian and John among others while a student at the University of Canterbury.
I started studying matial arts as a practitioner of Hoh Ta Karate in 1988, and Uchuuzen Kempo in 1997, visiting Japan in 1997 and attaining my brown belt in 1998.
I have continued pursuing the study of Earles Academy Ving Chun Kuen while living in New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Germany and Hong Kong.
During my travels I have made friends and experienced training at many different schools, under Felix Leong, Beau Bousaid, and Ralph Haenel, Walter Schaeffer, Master Al and Master Wong (*not* youtube Wong :)) among others. Like Kevin Earle, these Masters really stand out.
I started training my own students in 2010 in Golden Bay, completing the circle so to speak, where I received my first Earles Academy Ving Chun Kuen lesson from Jason many years ago!
I'm a Christian who practices active meditation. Look to "Psychology of the Esoteric" by Osho - basically principles of conciousness, compassion and unpredictability.
Over the years I have worked as a Software Engineer, PADI Divemaster, Royal New Zealand Naval Officer, Project Manager, Politician, Tutor, Doorman, Entrepreneur, Ski and Snowboard and 4WD Guide, Farmer, and Aeroplane Pilot.
I hold a Commercial Pilot License, PADI Divemaster qualification, and a degree in Accounting Finance and Information Systems from the the University of Canterbury. I study Computer Science as a postgraduate, and recently founded RealWorld - "Reality Virtualised for the Real You" Limited.
Apart from Earles Academy Ving Chun Kuen I am passionate about sustainability, our oceans, space exploration, and technocracy and researched and promote a renewable energy credit Universal Basic Income through my blog at theoccupyparty.wordpress.com and more recently Loomio and the 2017 Internet Party.
Living sustainably means to consider what would happen if everybody did what you do, and not do it if it is unsustainable. Personally, I like to share 'living off the land' and love to hunt, fish, and prepare food for family and friends. I study history (it's being made everyday), and am interested in learning more about Traditional Chinese Medicine.
I am founder and president of the Victoria Ving Chun Kuen and Ba Qua Club at the University of Victoria in Welllington. The club trains Mondays and Wednesdays since 2014.
I had the chance to encounter an excellent Yin Style Ba Qua Master in Victoria, Vancouver Island, Chinatown in 2011, and am researching Yin Style Ba Qua and its internal relationship to Siu Nim Tao.
Currently, as of now, 2015, I am in Hong Kong researching Guanzhou Wing Chun of the Sum Num lineage and have been fortunate enough to teach Earles Academy Ving Chun Kuen privately.
